We often place the responsibility of keeping a family stable to Mum and Dad, but the reality is that everyone has a crucial role in shaping family dynamics.
Even children, through their interactions with their parents and each other, can significantly influence the strength or weakness of a family.
Hence, by empowering young people to realise their part in nurturing these bonds, FamChamps contributes to their holistic development as responsible individuals.
As we work together to encourage our young to believe in, live out and champion Family, my hope is also that parents will continue believing in their children – even in difficult and discouraging seasons of their growing years.
Over the years, I've witnessed a positive shift in family dynamics, with a growing number of parents and youths actively involved and aware of their roles than ever before.
With FamChamps continuously equipping young people with the tools and insights they need to navigate and strengthen their family relationships, I can't help but feel encouraged by the potential for even greater change in the future.
I’m Peter and was an educator for over 20 years before retiring from my role as a principal.
I used to be actively involved in the Boys' Brigade and saw the remarkable transformation of attitudes and mindsets—almost magically—over just a few days. This firsthand witnessing of the impact that immersive experiences have was what drew me to FamChamps when it was first pitched to me in 2014.
The idea of bringing students from various backgrounds together and empowering them to make a positive change in their families and schools resonated deeply with me.
There is something inherently powerful about the collective narratives and camaraderie that these camps could cultivate. Furthermore, the students were also encouraged to give back to the community and share what they had learnt with their peers.
It is my hope that youths recognise their part to play in the family and the importance of taking responsibility for these relationships.
