Growing up in a non-traditional family after my parents separated when I was 2 years old, the importance of family resonates deeply with me. Volunteering with Focus became a way for me to contribute back, not just to the organisation that has profoundly impacted my life since my internship stint, but also to communities grappling with challenging family dynamics in Singapore.

Young Adults
2 in 5 young adults (under 40) avoided being with others or interacting with others. 37% had a high mental health risk, while 46% had a moderate mental health risk.

WHAT WERE THE
FACED BY FAMILIES IN 2023?
In family life, there are often complex layers hidden under the surface. Couples, parents, children and youth alike may not have room or space for right expression towards one another, therefore causing tensions to brew in the undercurrents.

Do you ever wonder just how far and wide the rippling impact of these undercurrents could be in our nation? Throughout 2023, friends of our Focus family have aided us in leaving an indelible mark on families in Singapore. In 2024, there remains a wide expanse of opportunities for us to continue sowing into families.
Children's Day
Play is powerful in strengthening parent-child relationships, yet the daily stresses and the mundane routine can take away quality time that parents have with their children. To celebrate children and encourage parents to rediscover the joys of sharing meaningful engagement with one another, we empowered 2.32 million* parents to purposefully connect with their children through play.
Celebrate MarriageTM
With the aim to inspire couples to continue establishing strong foundations in their marriage, we encouraged 2.43 million* married individuals to rediscover #SoMuchMore about each other through dating. Through bite-sized digital resources and honest couple stories, couples reignited their romance as they remembered why they fell in love and identified how their marriage has grown.
Mother's Day
With a desire to strengthen mothers’ unique worth, we invited 1.87 million* mums to celebrate joys, acknowledge pains and embrace growth in their motherhood journey. A 46-page digital publication, The Stories We Get To Tell: Seeing Through Mum’s Eyes, featured raw, heartfelt stories with illustrations to encourage mums of the grace and strength they possess.
Father's Day
Hoping to inspire fathers with courage to keep at this brave adventure of fatherhood, we reached 3.4 million* dads with interactive digital resources to bolster them in their fatherhood journey. Through Braveheart Quest, dads were provided with conversations, father-child bonding ideas, and a platform to deepen their relationship with their children.
ParentEd™ Podcast
Birthed when Covid-19 hit our shores, it began with the aim of encouraging parents in their parenting journeys and resourcing them with needful tools.
Since its launch in 2020, we have reached and encouraged 16,649 parents through 88 episodes. Come April 2024, we will celebrate 100 published episodes. We endeavour to continue sharing authentic parenting experiences so more families can be inspired.

Connect2™ Podcast
Married life can be filled with twists and turns, especially with the day-to-day priorities and stresses in life, including the times we run into conflict with our spouse.
Since its launch in 2022, we have enriched the lives of 6,600 married individuals through 24 episodes.
Children and Youth
About 1 in 3 young people in Singapore experience mental distress symptoms. However, parents can develop strong relationships with their children so that channels of communication, conversation and understanding remain open. (The Straits Times, 28 April 2023)
Families
In a post-pandemic world, with rising cost of living and declining birth rates, families can go beyond material success to find meaning and purpose together in unity.
(TODAY, 27 Oct 2023)
Parents
Parents need more help to reconcile work and childcare as about 50% of parents take interest in what their children learn at least once weekly, and 47% ask their children about problems they might have at school once weekly.
(The Straits Times, 24 Sep; 7 Dec 2023)
Married Couples
While the number of marriages in Singapore are on the rise, divorces and annulments are also increasing.
