Our surveys conducted in 2020 show that Family has taken a hit. In a fairly upside-down year, how can we support couples, parents and young people before it is too late?
I hope you and your loved ones are keeping well in these extraordinary times.
As we bid farewell to 2020 – a year that will be written in the history books – it is apparent that many families are still reeling and recovering from the losses brought about by the pandemic.
It is also apparent that we need Family: Now more than ever. When there is an increase in volatility, Family needs to be a strong foundation, that unwavering pillar of support for every young child, youth, couple, parent, and grandparent.
To help bolster this foundation of Family, we made a concerted effort in 2020 to digitalise Focus on the Family’s resources, services and programmes. By shifting online, we were able to continue encouraging families and helping them thrive in the storm.
We are hopeful this has helped to create a positive spiral upwards and are confident that the seeds of love and sacrifice sown will make a difference to future generations.
We created a COVID-19 microsite to deliver timely resources to aid families in managing the new norms of WFH and HBL, and provide hope and encouragement to every home.
– Jamie Lee, 20, President of the FamChamps Council
The future of Family is in our hands. As we move into 2021, we will continue to water the seeds of family relationships and raise a generation of future-ready families through:
In line with our shift towards digital, we’re thankful to have received the support of volunteers with skills and expertise in the digital domain.
Join us to give hope and bring restoration to families who are hurting. We need to raise $1.92 million in donations for Financial Year 2021 to meet our projected expenditure of $2.71 million.
Every dollar received enables us to deliver timely resources to families in Singapore — be it a podcast, article or video, parent coaching or marriage preparation programme, meaningful experiences such as Date with Dad or Create with Mum, and onsite or online counselling.

STEWARDSHIP REPORT 2020
A NOTE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIRMAN, JASON WONG
Dear Friends,
What has Revealed about Our Family Relationships?

Finding A New Rhythm of Life During COVID-19
– Susan Koh, mother of a tween
As the weeks rolled by (during the Circuit Breaker), the mental load of arranging everything, from preparing meals to managing my daughter’s online learning, to providing emotional support for my aged parents, was very overwhelming.
My husband and I had numerous disagreements that started from unmet expectations, coupled with heightened stress which led to more resentment. We realised we had to pull the brakes on our unloving interactions and work towards a healthier way to manage our conflicts ...
– Andy Sim, father of 4 young adults and grandfather of 1
Staying Connected While Physically Apart
COVID-19 gave me the added motivation to learn new technology to connect with my children and their families about our experiences in coping with the pandemic.
Instead of weekly gatherings, we met together more frequently for virtual dinners on video conferencing platforms. Unexpectedly, I felt more connected to my children and grandchild during the Circuit Breaker, as I was able to spend more intentional time with them ...
When the Circuit Breaker happened, I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. Besides learning to adapt to the changes in school, I also saw how my family was going through a really tough time. We got into many arguments easily while trying to navigate our personal space and boundaries, and expectations on ourselves and one another ...
The pandemic presented new opportunities for us to connect with a wider audience through online streaming of family life education. The monthly sessions on Focus Singapore’s Facebook page highlight the honest conversations and real stories that many family members have — from everyday dads, mums and youth to family life practitioners and experts.
We launched a bi-weekly podcast in February 2020 with an eye on delivering parenting tips and timeless advice to parents on-the-go. The podcast features everyday parents and experts, sharing stories, struggles and practical insights on marriage, parenting and work-life.

What a year it has been! As we grieve the losses and pains of the past year, we celebrate and give thanks for the unexpected wins 2020 has brought about for our relationships with one another and also for Singapore.
We need Family now, more than ever, and our hope in this new year is that we can be #StrongerwithFamily.
Together with over 100 SOTA and FamChamps youth, we produced "I Will Rise" to inspire and encourage youths in Singapore that no one is too young to make a difference in building family resilience.
Every little step and effort we make to pursue stronger relationships can go a long way to help our families emerge stronger from any crisis and unite Singapore together for the future.
I wanted to take on this project to encourage youths to create a moment of intention with our families. From washing the dishes to writing a letter, a little step is all it takes to start pursuing family.
Slowly, but surely.
